My daughters last name was changed without my knowledge. Is this legal?
My ex wife re-married and changed my daughters last name. I did not give permission or sign anything. Is this legal?

Did my ex wife's new husband adopt my daughter
How can I find out if my ex wife's new husband adopted my daughter without my permission. My ex is really good at forging my signature. What steps do I need to take to find out?

Ask them ? Hire someone to go though the family court cases in the area where they live.

But first they would have to try and serve you legal notice, if she lied to the court and said they did not know where you were at, there are requirements of the court to search.

She could not have forged, since it would have had to be notarized to be used in court.

It depends on how they did it, if they did not know where you live and did service by publication, So you will need to review the court records.

Did they provide you any court documents

Did she change your daughter's last name OR is she "simply" using another last name without Court permission - for example, for school or something else?

Does your "ex" know where you are? Do you visit and pay child support?

EDIT: I note this is posted under adoption. The new husband adopted the child?

To legally change a child's name requires a court order. Therefore, you can check the records of the Family court where your ex lives. I would suggest hiring an attorney to do such a check. The attorney can then advise what your next step would be.

A person can use any name they want as long as there is no attempt to defraud. So its possible your wife register your daughter in school using her husband's name, but did not make a legal change. That's why we need to know how you found out about the name change and whether you maintain a relationship with your daughter. It would also help to know her age and the general locale.
