    Problem with fill valve #3142
When toilet is flushed water spurts out of the top of the valve and flows over the tank dripping down the side of the tank outside. What can cause this problem.

Which type of fill valve do you have?
Are you missing the refill tube?

Please answer hkstroud question, also as he says check the refill tube it should be connected to the white overflow pipe, one other thing remove the toilet tank lid flush the toilet let it fill, water should be flowing inside the overflow tube when tank is full check the water level, se the imgages below, Thanks.

There is a refill tube and it is working. When I take the cover off a the top or what would be the cap, it is yellow with open ridges and the #3142 on top. As soon as you flush water spurts out the left side of the cap with enough force that it spurts over the side of the tank. After that everything works as it should. It is just all going on as soon as you flush.

So your fill valve is the right one in my image and left one in Hkstroud's image if that is correct, it sounds that you have loose screws or the seal is leaking, flush the toilet and try to tighten the screws, check if it works, if not close the angle valve under the toilet tank flush the toilet remove the screws and the cap check the seal for condition, I would suggest to replace the seal, Thanks.

The problem is that the gasket is bad, there are no screws on this model. You take two pins out and then turn the top 1/4 turn counter clockwise and it comes off. Is there a repacement gasket out there somewhere??
