Around the time of my last period which ended 3 days ago I noticed an itch on the labia. My flow increased and I began using tampons upon incertion I would get immediate swelling followed by sever itching and pain. My period lasted 8 days upon the last 4 days I stopped using tampons because I could not take the pain.my first thought was allergy. A few days after my period ended I had sex and found it painful maybe even a little dry. As soon as we were done I noticed my labia felt numb I checked it with a mirror and found that my labia min. was swollen so much that the smaller lips appeared bigger then the bigs ones (major). The swelling went down but the area remaind painful all day and felt itchy.

Had you used that brand of tampons before? It could be an allergic reaction.

Are you using the correct size for your flow? If you use say super tampons when your period is very light I have found it can cause irritation as well.

I am not in any way medically trained, this is just personal observation.

If the irritation continues even after you have stopped using them it's best to consult your doctor to make sure there is nothing more sinister going on.

It could also be due to an infection. You may need to seek medical attention for this. In the meantime ice packs will help with the swelling.

Thank you guys I've made a doctors appt. to check things out. I used to same brand tampon as usual and the correct size which is why I am so confused. I was using the pearl brand and after the itch began I switched to the cardboard and found the itch was much less with that brand.it feels like everythings fine as long as nothings in there so I fear sex in the future because I do not want a repeat experience.
