    An unknown dissolves in water
    An unknown dissolves in water to give a solution with a pH of 4. Is washing soda a possible candidate for the unknown? Why or Why not?

    If the pH is 4, what does that tell you about whether the substance was an acid or a base? Would washing soda result in a pH of 4?
