I need to know the correct drill bit to use for porcelain tile.I bought a black & decker glass & tile drilling set and it wore completely before I was even 1/8" in. I've been to home depot & lowe's and am told this is the only one available. Surely this can't be true. Any help will be greatly appreciated

sears hard ware has a drill bit that will drill hardened steel or tile or granet just pay mind to the RPM's of the drill the bit is called a cobalt& tungsten carbide tip. #01020 is a 3/16th bit but they have bigger ones

Sear hardware has what you need cobalt&tungsten carbide tip drill bits #01020 is 3/16th bit but they have others

Go to TILE-EZE Keramik Drill Bits, Ceramic Tile Drill Bits, and Glass Drill Bits it works !

Sears store in Phoenix doesn't carry. Sears computer says no number like #01020. Any suggestion on another number. I do need a 3/16 bit for porcelain. Had the same experience with the "spade" type bits from HD and Loew's.

It works

Gee I thought it was just me, I wrecked 4 of those B&D glass bits. Sometimes they heated up so quick the tip came unwelded from the shaft. Guess this is an example of a good name gone bad. I use carbide Remington cutters for small holes like a shower supply. They work even better if you lay the tile inabout 1/8" of water.

I use a regular massonary bit in a cordless drill. If you have problems use an 1/8" bit first. I will never buy another $7.00 glass and tile bit again.

the1unv, we must be thinking of different materials. A masonry bit will barely scratch a porcelain tile. The B&D glass bits do suck so I will never buy them again.

I am talking about porcelain tile, it may take a bit longer to drill the hole but the bit will last much,much longer.

PS. To make it easier to start the hole I use a "spring punch" where I want the hole. It will chip the finish off the porcelain with out cracking the tile... makes it easier to drill... In My Opinion !

Thanks, the1unv. I used a 3/8" masonry bit for the pilot hole and then the larger bit for the size I needed. Worked like a charm!

Tapcon drill bit works nice. Low speed and tak your time.
