After 6 years in our new house it was time to replace the gasket, using a flashlight I could see water seeping out slowly from the connection of the base and stand. The screws , rubber washers are not leaking. I shut the water off , drained the excess water out and switched out the gaskets. After doing this and re-installing the top to the base I tightened down all three screws evenly. After pouring in a bit of water it was fine but, after turning the water back on and it filled up water started seeping out worse than before!

I did not use any rubber cement or plumber grease , should I also use somehting like this because I didn't before with the new toilet and never had a problem.

It is a very simple installation and requires bit of skill to be successful on the first try.

You probably didn't seat the gasket well. Take it apart. Flip tank over and insert new gasket over plastic nut under the tank. Make sure it sits nice and evenly all the way around. Push it with hand against the tank. Then set tank on top of the bowl. Tighten the screws. Sometimes, the screws leak as well. Make sure they have new rubber and s.s. washer under the head.
