My son and I are in a real dklemma. We been very depressed. We left this little town in VA to move to a more exciting place with a good bus system. My Sec 8 worker there messed up with sending my voucher to Asheville, NC so I told her I might want to go to another city. So we went to Charlotte, NC and I found myself still wanting to go to Asheville. And so then we took the Greyhound to Asheville, NC. But we found Asheville city bus system isn't what we thought it was among other things like everything being expensive. So now we are thinking of returning to Charlotte, NC and having my voucher sent to Charlotte, NC. But Charlotte is a little more crime ridden (8, 8 out of 10) then Asheville (7, 7 out of 10) and there are many many people living in Charlotte not to mention the air quality in Charlotte is bad. We are so depressed we can't make a decision. We had little money to start with and we can make it to Charlotte and have enough money for 1, possible 2 weeks in a motel (motels are cheaper in Charlotte) and very little money for bus fares and food. What should we do? Thanks.

I will be blunt, not sure where 7 or 8 come from, but the majority of open sec 8 housing will be in lower income area and will have more crime, Example Atlanta has about a 2 year waiting list even to get a section 8 home.

You need to pick some place and stay, find a job and get used to it, Being really harsh, but living at welfare level is not going to be great or easy anywhere, It is a place to start and work yourself up.

Also to be blunt, you are relying on taxpayer dollars and those taxpayers are losing their jobs and are ending up in the same boat you are in. It isn't fair to them to be wandering around looking for excitement, low crime, a good bus system, in a city that doesn't have too many people (how can a city with few people have a good bus system anyway)? And a 'good' city like Asheville IS going to be more expensive, because that's the nature of what is popular. So you need to get your mind wrapped around some new concepts before making your decision. Maybe the little town you left is best for you after all.

Well kind lady I wasn't asking for these types of opinions. Look I lived in a little town in IL for over 30 years and I got myself an associates degree but I tried and tried to get employment and nobody would hire me. I tried lots of other jobs but they didn't work out. In my 40's I started suffering from tmj migraine headaches plus I suffer various non-dangerous type mental disorders (depression, bipolar etc.). Both my mother and father suffered mental disorders however both were very good people and taught me how to be a good person. My father did suffer some kind of split personality. He fought in WWII and it made his mental, physical condition worse; he fought the Japs in the infintry and carried 1 man out alive from behind enemy lines (they all had suffered stavation). Our government has benefit programs for the poor and I think that is a good thing. You obviously don't. You I suppose are the type of person who would allow the suffering to suffer even more so.

But why be blunt mister? I put more exciting life when I should have put a better quality of life that I think everybody has the right to want. I've tried lots of stuff to better myself and I've succeeded in become a better person but not succeeded in bettering my financial situation. My statistics come from bestplaces.net. There do happen to be Sec 8 places in safe neighborhoods. I'm sorry I even asked my question when I look at these unhelpful, make me not feel good answers. I didn't ask you to be telling me what I should do either; I prefer to ask God that. And yes you are being unhelpful and harsh and that's just no way for you, or anybody else, to be. I've lived poor and low income all my life; I don't need you to tell me how hard it is. You're right it is hard. Who in their right mind would choose a life to be poor. You, like others, didn't really answer my question you just gave me your own 2 cents and put me down. Thanks.

And another thing Mrs Joy, some people when under stress are more likely to make stupid mistakes regarding money. Your mean, unhelpful comment didn't make me feel good. Get yourself out of darkness and follow the way of the Lord God Jesus Christ so you can be more like him (kind, loving, considerate, non-snobbish and all other good qualities all of us need to possess). We can't be renewed people without God's help; you need to ask for his holy spirit to come over you so you can be a good person renewed and you will begin to love and care about your fellow man. It will take you out of the ignorance you are in right now.

I fully understand that people need help. I don't think you should go from city to city though. You want the excitement of a city, but low crime, and good transportation, and low costs. Good grief - that is a dream. Negative me again. You asked for opinion and got one, and that's not what those 'unhelpful' votes are for, if you had bothered to read the rules of this site.

First of all, Lisain was just simply asking a question. It's clear that she doesn't like or even want to be in her situation.

I think the best thing for you to do, is to figure out where it is you want to live, which you have indicated, and save some money,then try to move there.

I will agree with the others that you should pick a place and stick with it. I only say that because, your money will wear thin, due to moving around a lot.

There are many section 8 properties in good areas.

I'm uninformed on the matter, but I have trouble believing that there isn't a waiting list for section 8 housing - in every city, and the list is getting longer...

Frankly, I'd be HAPPY to be shown where I'm wrong... But, IF I'm right, moving will put the OP at the END of the list..

Hi "I'm Scared", Especially when I was young like you I was always afraid of being alone someplace - especially at home or even alone in a public bathroom. I was afraid I'd see something. Well I never saw and ghosts or anything ever. I'm still sort of afraid but not to such a great degree as I was when I was younger. In all my life I've never seen any signs of anything supernatural and/or ghosts. I still have a fear sort of like yours that if someone in my family dies I'll see them. Well after my mom died I never saw her; I never saw anybody's ghost that I knew died. So don't you worry there is absolutely nothing for you to be afraid of except for real people. There is probably no such thing as ghosts. There's lots of propaganda since people like to make money off these things. Plus there are physical and mental conditions that cause people to see spirits and things that are just not there. There is a type of epilepsy where people see ghosts. I tend to not believe in any of these things anymore. Believe in what is reality. Believe in people and watch out for ones you don't know if you can trust. You will be fine. There is a place in the Bible that states that once people die and they go to the sleeping place (hell); they can not come back as spirits or ghosts. I believe this (I think).

I understand where you're coming from. Yeah I think you are right; a person really has to look hard to get a Sec 8 place in a good location. No I don't think you are being blunt. If I said anything "rude" before I'm sorry. I'm on Sec 8 but I may be losing it since I am very miserable in this small town I thought I'd escaped from. I lived here for close on 29 years; I've gotten so sick of it. I came back to be around family (1 hour away) but then my sister was not nice to me and me and my son weren't welcomed for Christmas. I've not seen any of my family in close on 7 months. I would like to find 1 place I really like and stay there. I'm disappointed that I may be stuck here unless I really just take a chance and try to move (me and my son that is) without enough money and without the housing voucher. I don't think I can stand it here the rest of the year until I can get my Sec 8 voucher transferred.

I'm sorry if I made rude comments to you before. I don't want to be relying on taxpayer dollars. I've been trying to figure out how to make money online and working on that for a very long time but I've made very few dollars. Well my life up to now has been pretty dull and my dreams aren't that big. I left one small town in VA to come back to IL to the even smaller town that I'm just miserable in. I wanted to see my family who lives in a city not far but that did not pan out very well. My son and I got to spend Thanksgiving with them but they didn't want to come pick us up for Christmas. I came back only because I'd thought I'd get to spend both holidays with them. I'm very disappointed and I'm stuck here without enough money to leave. I'm sickly with health problems. I think my health could get better if I could live where I was happy. And my state of depression would improve allot. I understand what you were talking about.
