My partner aged 42 died recently on the death certificate cause of death is haemopericardium and ruptured aortic dissection. Can someone please explain what this is and if they are both connected.

Yes they are related. Haemopericardium is when blood accumulates in the sac around the heart. An aortic dissection is when a tear occurs in the Aorta causing blood to leak into the sac.

Either can cause the heart to fail.
