Rope burn from dog leash around ankle
I had a dog wrap its leash around my ankle about 3 days ago its three-quarters around my leg and is very deep. Its getting worse and throbbing and burning. Also there is a large red circle way around the deep burn. I don't know if there was feces on the leash or just dirt and stuff... I have been cleaning it with soap and water, hydrogen peroxide, and then putting neosporin on it. Its very deep, and don't know what my next step should be since it just seems to be getting worse, very deep and red, my leg is also very hot. Any ideas?

Go to a doctor or to the ER.

Yes, you really do need to go see a doctor. Yes, the ER would probably be the best place to start since this has been going on about 2 days longer than it should have. Sounds like you have tissue damage... a real wound that apparently needs more than soap and water and ointment.

The red ring is tissue reaction to the damage done to your tissues by the rope and is caused by the release of the contents of dead and dying cells at the site of the injury. These 'chemical messengers' are going all through your body to mount a defense against this crisis on your leg. This is more than just 'normal' healing, it's a cry for help.

Your next step should be a big one... right towards the ER, literally, before you begin feeling 'hot' all over. Don't wait to see what another answer will tell you, cause it'll be the same.

    Best wishes.
