I am 17 and I can't wait to turn 18. My mom is trying to say that I am not allowed to move out when I am 18 and I have to wait until I am 19. Is this true?

In most states, you can enter into an agreement for a place to rent at age 18.

The real questions are:
a) do you have money saved up for a security deposit?
b) do you have income to pay rent?

Do your homework. Call around about places for rent and ask them if they will rent to you based on no credit or rental history... but if you have a good paying job and some money saved up then you will have what most of them want.

The legal age of majority is locality dependent, generally 18 in the U.S. with certain states being exceptions.

Whether you are still in school doesn't have a bearing. It depends on the law and since you haven't told is where you are, we can't tell you the law.

But more than the law, you have to be able to afford to move out. Can you?

Again for what ever reason, you are not saying where you live, but yes in general at 18 you can move out if you live in the US.

Generally you are still a minor and you cannot move away. That's the law.

Yes-if your father takes your mother to the court for custody modification,you will be asked for your preferences,but the judge is the person who decides!

I live in pittsburgh pa... and I would move in with my grandmother...

Truee... but what if my grandmother does?? That is moms mom... and my dad isn't really stable because he lives with his wife's parents and there is no room for me there...

Not true.While I agree that a sixteen year old preference has its weight in the Court that does not mean the preference will prevail in a custody case.

Your grandmother does not have legal standing to file for custody until your mother is recognized by the Court as unfit parent.

Ohh okay... welll I don't know I just need to get out of the house and away from my mom because its way too much for me.. one day its I need a job.. next minute she don't want me too... she wants me to get my license.. then she doest... like I don't know what to do!!
