    Don't get the blinking light on the ECU
    Hello,

    Hopefully some one can shed some light on this. Well I was driving out of my parking lot and my car back fired and shut down on me. I have not been able to start it since, that was a week ago. The engine turns but doesn't fire. I found my ECU, I turned the key one click and I see no "blinking" light, then I turned it two clicks my check engine light, seat belt light come but still no blinking or and light at all from the ECU?? I have a 95 Civic DX hatchback.

    The sad fact is, there is nothing that you are doing now that will throw a code. The way the hondas are set up, is very much not like any other car. You have to have it running before the ecu cycles.

    badpenny is correct. If your objective is to try and make it throw a code, crank the starter motor for up to 20 seconds (no more).

    I'm not trying to throw any codes on the contary I want to be able to see and read the codes I saw this post on here and tried it

    "One of the first things you want to do when you have problems with your Civic is to check your ECU / ECM (Electronic Control Unit / Electronic Control Module) for error codes. It is a metallic box, placed under the carpet, below the glove box, where a passenger would usually keep his/her feet while driving. Pull the carpet down a bit, and you'll see it. There will be a circle on the metallic sheet, which is just an opening through which a red LED light can blink. When you turn the key to position "II" (when the Check Engine Light, Oil light and Battery light turn on, but you do NOT yet crank the car) the LED will blink once, as if it's saying "Hello there, I'm alive... ". That LED will report any error codes it might have stored after the initial hello-blink. Error codes are coded with blinks as follows: number of short blinks = error code, pause = another error code is coming now."


    My post was that I'm not getting any light at all from the ECU, so how can I find out what and where to get the error codes? Sorry if didn't make myself more clear.

    Did you check your under-dash and under-hood fuse boxes, with a test light or multimeter, as suggested by reading sections A and B in the link provided?

    What were the results of the K-Test?

    Your problem is with a fuse, main relay, ignition switch, or ECM.

    Does the low oil pressure light come on, after the ignition switch is turned to ON? If not, inspect the Back Up Light (10 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box. If the CEL still doesn't come on, replace the MIL bulb.

    The oil light does come on but doesn't go out. The CEL comes on and goes off about 2 sec. later.

    I thought you said the CEL doesn't light up at all. On a 1995 Civic, you jump the Service Check Connector and count the flashes of the CEL. CroCivic was talking about probably pre-1992 Civics, where the LED was on the ECM.

    No no the cel does come on, the light on the ECU if my ECU actually has one doesn't come on. How do I " jump the Service Check Connector" and where is the service check connector??

    The 2-P Service Check Connector, on U.S. Civics, is located just under the dash, about 1/2 inch from the passenger side kick wall. If it has never been used before, it's secured in a small rubber mount. Carefully pry it out--it is blue. The other 3-P connector in the rubber mount is the Data Link Connector, which dealers use. Once you located the SCC, jump it with a paper clip, and turn the ignition switch to Position II. The Check Engine Light on the dash will then flash, if there are any codes. If the ECU is bad, it may not flash any codes.

    Your going to have to excuse my ignorance by jumping the scc do you mean that with the paper clip make a connection from the 2 prong scc to the 3 prong scc, if so what part of the 2-p scc do I connect to the 3-p scc? Can you explain it to me please. I just don't want to f-up my car more than it is.

    Form the paper clip into a "U." Then, insert "U" into 2P Service Check Connector. Don't do anything with the 3P Data Link Connector--Honda would use it.

    OK I did it and got 4 long blinks pause 1 short blink pause 7 short blink...
    I believe it to be code 41 and then code 7 if so..

    Code 41 is the primary Oxygen sensor Heater
    Code 7 is throttle position sensor

    Where in the engine bay are these seņors, how do I fix them and or do I replace them?

    Buy a oxygen sensor socket ($10).

    Replace throttle position sensor: On the rear side of the throttle.
