I have a 2" well 100 foot deep,
I hooked up a 1/2hp pump to the old piping and could not get any water out.
Next undid old piping at well and stuck a 3/4 drop pipe down 30' (it did not have a drop pipe) and primed pump and got water, ran for 2 days.
Now with all most 2ac of land to water I am going to try to hook up a 2hp pump and see if I could get a lot more water.
I was going to put 1 1/2 drop pipe down the well, it will fit (thanks to inside cups)
(I know about drow down, and most pumps will only lift 26 foot.)

How much drop pipe should I put down the well.

I'm assuming you are putting a footvalve on the end of the wellpipe.

Other than that, I'd probably try the 1.5" pipe. I would guess you are going to pump more water than the well can supply, but who knows? It's not like you are going to spend a million dollars trying this. Let us know how it works out.

There is no way you will successfully water 2 acres from a 2 inch well. A 2" pipe holds .16 gallons per ft. and in 100 ft there would only be 16 gallons of water in the well and you would not replenish fast enough unless you are sitting the well in a full flow aquifer. You may be able to fill a holding tank and then gravity flow the water but even that would still require a lot of water.

You are entirely correct when you say that your cannot draw from more than 26 feet down. That being the case, it wouldn't make sense to go more than five or ten feet past that.

If you are not using a footvalve, how is the pump maintaining prime when it cuts off?

Just to be sure we are on the same page, this is what I am referring to. It's a 1" footvalve that would fit into your 2" bore. It serves simply to maintain prime when the pump cuts off.

Yes we know about keeping a prime, There will be a 1 1/2" check valve at the top of the well.
I just think of the draw down in the well when I turn on the 2hp pump on.

A jet pump will not fit, a submersible will not fit, a single stage might go 30'. In 30 ft, you have 5 gallons of water in a 2" pipe. You will run out within only a few minutes. I'm afraid you are trying to do something that will not satisfactorily work. You need a 4-6" well with a submersible to hope for success in watering 2 acres. Sorry to be negative but I believe I am being realistic and don't want to see you waste money.

Hear in FL my water table is 3 feet down, it not hard to get water, but good water is a lot harder, it is for the yard not to drink..
The pump was hooked up on a 2" well with a drop pipe (But I do not know how deep the drop pipe was) it would run 4 or 5 heads - 5gal min heads 20 to 25gal a zones with good pressure, you do not think this will work on this well... Thanks

Wow! Three feet down. I'm jealous. Who knows? You might be getting enough water to do more than we might think. I think I'd try it first with the 1/2 horse pump. If you seem to be able to get plenty of water with that, then you might try stepping up to a bigger pump.

4-5 heads might be OK but even with zones, it is hard to imagine enough water capacity to do 2 acres, 88,000 square ft. That is a lot of land to cover. Hey, give it a try with the old pump before you buy a new 2HP pump. Your main issue is not necessarily total water but how much you can get out of a 2" pipe and keep the pump from burning out.

Ok going with a 1" drop pipe down 25' using a 1/2 Hp pump.

Have a 4" well I will put the 2 HP pump on, I found out that there is NOT a stuck pump in it like the someone told me..

Fish, you must be the same Fishfry that posted a separate thread about needing to pull a pipe and pump out of a 400' well.

If I had a 4" bore with water only three feet down, I'd go with a submersible pump. You will be more pleased with the results. Put it 80' down and I would think you could pump all the water you want. Just a thought.
