Copper water pipe to sprinkler system.

No, brass will not act as a dielectric insulator.

    Hi Ron...

NO! A brass fitting is not going to be as good as a dielectric fitting. Here, the dissimilar metals (brass to black iron) will create an electolytic effect where the metals join and minerals will deposit on the interior of the pipe. With a dielectric fitting this electrolytic effect and therefore the mineral deposit is supposedly negated.

More questions? Just let us know, OK?

If you remove the galvanized elbow and it is a copper to brass fitting you are saying I still need a dielectric insulating union??

Any fitting that is non conductive would wrk, e.g. Schedule 40/80 PVC or CPVC would work.
