Do I reall y need a new central A/C unit?
My home central air unit stop working yesterday. Here is some back round on the unit. At on point the condenser fan would not come. The blower would come on but the air would not be cool. My son would take the water hose and shoot water on the condenser fan to get it started, then it would run. The inside air would get cool and work fine.Yesterday when we woke up we smelled what I call electrical burn in the house. The A/C unit just quit running. I check the circuit breaker it was not tripped. I called a A/C Technician he said the compressor was putting out too many amps and blew the blower motor and capacitor and/may be the compressor and condenser fan. He would know for sure when he changes the blower motor and capacitor for $535.00. He recommend a new unit for $7,400.00 installed by him of course. I am going to get a second opinion. Can a compressor be jump started? And still work fine? Does' n it have overload protectors? As well as the blower motor? Is he just trying to sell anew unit? Thanks for any tips or advice
