    Glaucoma
:-/This week my opthomologist told me I have glaucoma. He said to come back in a month. That was all he said and I'm kinda' scared. Iresearched some online, I don't fit any profiles. Is this a normal way for a diagnosis to be made? Thank you

    Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve. It may include high pressure, atrophy of the nerve, and visual field loss.
Any combination of the above may be present at initial diagnosis. Glaucoma is diagnosed by measuring the pressures of the eyes, looking at the optic nerve, and specialized testing. The "gold-standard" is a Humphrey Visual Field test. Other tests are available, such as the HRT and GDX.
It would be almost impossible to have a conclusive diagnosis of Glaucoma without being properly screened for it. Patients with Glaucoma must be treated. Early prevention is the key.
