    Electrical Question
Ihave switch that turns on a plug for my TV. I want to run powere and add switch for
A ceiling fan in the same room. I thought I would "jump" the black to the new switch and "twist" the white wires together to do that. What am I missing.

Most switched outlets are wired with a "switch loop". Power is taken to the outlet on a hot and neutral wires. The neutral is connected directly to the outlet. The hot is connected to the cable going to the switch. The hot is connected to the white wire of the cable going to the switch and the black is used to return the power from the switch and is connected to the outlet.

That means you have no neutral at the switch. You will have to come up with another plan. You will probably want to take power from an outlet to the ceiling and then run another switch loop from the ceiling to where you want the switch.
