8 year old Ruud heat pump cools home during evening, night, and early morning, but blows hot air during the hottest part of the day. If I turn it off for about 30 min. then turn it back on, it will cool for about 15 min. and then start blowing hot air. Tech says compressor windings are bad and compressor must be replaced at cost of $1900! Does this make sense?

I have the same situation the tech did check everything and looks OK, but still I have the problem. Did you get any solution?

Could be poor insulation in the attic if the unit is there, condenser in full sun, thermal overload is weak or too hot. Some overload switches are internal, some external and can be replaced. $1900 seems a little high for just the compressor. Get a couple more bids.
