I have an aunt who lives in Florida that has a garbage disposal and a dishwasher. She says she doesn't use the disposal, but it has been used in the past(about 2 or three years ago by previous owners) She is getting a bad smell in her dishwasher. Can you tell me what would be causing it?

Perhaps she has bacteria in the dishwater sump located in the bottom of the tub. This is water that stays down there all the time. Have her clean out the sump and pour a quart of bleach down the drain and flush it out by cycling the washer. Regards, Tom

I was looking through answers of other peoples problems and am woundering if the drain pipe maybe has a loop in it and holding dirty water which causes the stink. I don't know if she uses the washer every day or if just once in a while. Will talk with her and find out more. Thank you for your help.
