How do you get the spark plug out without the deep socket tool fitting down in the area?

Depending on what you are working on... you don't. You go buy a spark plug socket. They are fairly cheap. Or you borrow one off someboby that does have one. They are part of nearly every socket set sold so they are common to find.

I agree, there isn't much of a way around the issue, go buy one. Many tool kits come with 2 sizes of spark plug sockets which are thinner than a normal socket
