Credit Affected From Unpaid WC Claim (WI)
So here is the situation:
Back in July of '10, I was hurt on the job, I went to get medical treatment on the morning after the accident. I explained it was an injury that occurred while at work. No bills went to worker's comp. When I got the bills I explained that this was supposed to be handled by workers comp. Every time I said that, the conversation ended immediately, and I never heard back from them. I know that I did this for every bill I was issued for that date of service.
Fast track a few months...
I called to check on the status and the worker's comp insurance company still had not received any medical records, but I "wasn't listed as a responsible party anymore". I was told that the insurance company was liable until the insurance company either paid them all, or deemed it was not a work related injury.
Fast track to now...
I just opened a new account with a bank and started looking into some refinance options, to find that I have a bill in collections for 250.00$. A day later. I get a bill in the mail from an attorney's office, for the tune of 250.00$. I call and ask what this is for, and I am given the date of service for the work related injury. I explain that this should have been billed to the insurance company before it was sent to collections. They say they aren't the original collector.
Long story short, I find out that UCB (united collections bureau) is the original collector. I never once received anything in the mail stating that a bill was going to collections. (If I had you can damn well bet I would have forwarded it to the insurance company) I don't even remember getting phone calls. I never answer unlisted or 800 numbers on my phone, and I don't have voicemail.
What can I do to not just get this resolved, but to have this removed from my credit report. I don't want the insurance company to just pay this and still have it on my report.
***forgot to mention, I'm in WI, UCB and the attorney's office are in OH. Funny thing is, they are both based out of toledo OH, and probably only blocks away from each other.
