Parent with disabled child not able to work
My grandson is 8 years of age and has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, autism and a seizure disorder. Due to the progression of his disease and other medical problems he cannot be placed in a day care. Because of the severity of his disease his mother must stay home and take care of him except for the periods when he is in school (in a special needs class). Is there any program that can help this family? The mother and father are divorcing and the father barely makes enough money to pay his own bills and cannot pay enough child support to adequately supplement the SSI benefits the mother receives for their son. Is there a carer provision or some other program she can apply to in order to receive benefits as the full time caregiver of her severely disabled son?

My daughter is autistic, and daycares will not care for her because she is not fully potty trained yet and needs one on one attention they cannot provide.

At the moment I am at the end of the process for getting SSI for her. This may be the best place for your daughter to start.

I can not say what is in your area, I know here in Atlanta there would be "schools" that they would attend during normal school time hours. Also I know here in Atlanta we have a Muscular Dystrophy network that helps with supplies and other items, Their workers would also know of other charities and programs in your area.
