    Craftsman GT3000 Rusty Ignition Modules
My flyweel and ignition modules are completely rusted. This Craftsman GT3000 Lawn Tractor is a 2003 I think, just handed down, and it hasn't been run for 2 years. Iput in new gas, new fuel lines and filter, plugs, oil and filter. Cleaned the carb and linkeage, but it still runs rough and smokes. Limited use, the mower has never been used. I pulled the valve covers and it is very clean and moving the way it should. The rotor contacts and ignition modules are completely rusted... can they be cleaned up with emory cloth or solvent? Do you just clean the contact areas or all exposed metal? Is there a test to se if they are operating properly?

    Frustrated...

    Hi,
Despite the fact that you think you cleaned the carb completely, I think you not, Rust will interfere with the workings of those, but if it runs, they are working.
Sit the thing on the drive and run a few tanks of gas through it. I will bet it will improve, if it can, some engines just do not sound good until loaded.
    Peace,

You might put some type of cleaner in the fuel tank while its running , seafoam is a good cleaner.
    Luck
