Car making a ticking noise mid acceleration.
Hi, my car makes a ticking noise mid acceleration. If I ease of the accelerator or push down harder the ticking stops so it appears to be mid acceleration for each gear. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing it? Any help would be much appreciated.

. Check the CV joints. If they make noise, while going straight, they should be replaced right away. New half-axles cost about $50 each.

. Check the wheel bearings--they may need replacing. It's not uncommon to have to replace them every 100,000 miles.

. Ensure the transmission fluid has been changed in the last 30,000 miles.

Sure sounds like spark knock. I would be checking EGR, try 93 octane fuel first.

kitch428 may have pinpointed the problem. If high octane gas solves the problem, you may also want to try installing colder running spark plugs to prevent engine knock. I had to do this on my Civic, which knocked on regular gas with the A/C on in the summer.
