Try eMonster. I paid about 7.50 for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Office substitutes, compatible with all of them. So far they seem to work fine.

Is this New Products : eMonster!, Computer Software, Microsoft Office Equivalent, AntiVirus, Open Office the eMonster site? I don't see any Office compatible software there.

You can get Open Office for free. With file compatibility with the Office apps. If all you need is a word processor that that will be fine. But if you actually need Word its not going to be free beyond the trial

ScottGem, I bought it on eBay item # 160567943173. It includes Open Office.
I'm not sure what you mean by not Office compatible?
Also, OP shouldn't need real Word for any reason, right?

I think you paid for something that is offered for free. I'm looking at the eBay page and all those programs are free.

No, the teacher is right. You can set Open Office to save documents. Spreadsheets etc in Office formats: Install and Configure OpenOffice
Scroll down to section 2.3. Configure OpenOffice For Full Microsoft Office Compatibility

Open Office is Open Source software. So you paid $7.50 to download a software package that you can download in the same amount of time from the source?

It depends on the requirements of the course. The course MIGHT require she have the real Word. If the only requirement is from the teacher that all submissions be in Word compatible files, then Open Office will do.

Also if you need the real deal since you are a student Microsoft offers deals on their software for students. You might ask at your school and see if the program is available to you.
