Dishwasher drain hose into drain opening for washer.
I am remodeling my house and want to use space where use to be under countr washer and dryer to instal dishwasher. Can I directly place drain hose from dishwasher into a opening where was inserted drain hose from washer. Do I need air gap?

    Hi Mod3rnj...

Yes, you can hook into the undercounter washer drain... no air gap needed. Here, most dishwashers connect directly into a disposal or branch tailpiece, but some also connect into separated PTRAPS under sinks. You can use a reducing rubber clamp or just stick the dishwasher hose into the PTRAP standpipe (don't stick in too far)... secure properly using a clip so the hose doesn't pull out.

You will also want to secure the drain hose up high to the underside of the countertop and then drop down and into the PTRAP standpipe. This will aid in keeping dirty water from flowing back down and into the dishwasher... ;)

More questions - just let me know, OK?
