I bought a new thermostat, to replace an outdated one. The wires from the thermostat are as followed: Red, Blue, White and Green. My new thermostat has five options for the placement of the wires; which are as followed: Rh, Rc, W, Y, G. I currently have the Red in the Rh, the Blue in the Rc, the White in the W, and the Green in the G. so my Y is missing a wire altogether. The thermostat is working and I was able to kick my heat on during the winter. But now spring is in full swing and my air conditioner won't kick on when I set the thermostat to cool or fan. Which wire is in the wrong place? Please help.

Before we can give a good answer we need to know the model and vrand of that new stat and what exact type of heating system you have. Frequently the Rh and Rc are jumpered to each other, 24 volts , right?

The exact model number of the stat I could not tell you right off hand, I am not near it at the moment. But I can tell you that it is a Honeywell. And I have a gas furnace. I merely took the wire that were in the old stat (rotary looking style). And wanted a newer one, digital. There was no enjoing wire on the old one.

When I initially hooked it up it was giving the issue that my a/c unit was kicking on but my furnace would not. I moved some wires around and got the heat to work. But this was when winter was getting ready to hit us. Now that the weather is getting hotter I can't remember the way I had it before and get the a/c to kick on. But there has to be a way that both should work.

OK when you get a chance give us the Honeywell model number, there are many with each having their own directions.

Red wire to RC with a jumper wire from RC to RH. Blue wire to Y. Green wire to G. White wire to W... Don't FORGET TO ADD THE JUMPER WIRE FROM Rc TO Rh.
