I had my period on April 21st to the 30th. I started to have a light period on May 9th and the color is red and brown. Im still bleeding and brown with it. Not having very many cramps and there not as painfull like I would with my normal period. The cramps only last for about 10 seconds at a time and they come and go. Im not due for my period till May 21st. I have never bleed between periods. I do not use condoms and not on birth control. Did have sex around May 7th. Been with my boyfriend for a year. What could this be??

Some thoughts are age related like perimenopause. Other thoughts are possible pregnancy. It could be implantation bleeding. However, it may be too soon for a home pregnancy test to be accurate.

If you are really concerned, contact your gynecologist. Which is probably a good idea anyway to get on birth control.

I have more people tell me it could be implantion bleeding than anything else. I was told to take a pregnancy test if I don't get my period on May 21st.

Did you have sex prior to May 7, but after your last period? If you only had sex on the 7th, and bleeding started on the 9th, it wouldn't be implantation bleeding as the egg, if fertilized, would have not implanted yet. It takes a few days for it to travel to the uterus and a few more to implant.

Yes had sex before the 7th and it was after my last period. I think the next day.

I have periods every 35 to 38 days and they normaly last 6 to 8 days.

Irregular bleeding can be from a number of possible causes. Might be from the recent sex... brownish blood tends to be older blood. Might have been due to hormone changes, perhaps with ovulation. It may be that you are pregnant, but you were pregnant before the 7th as the bleeding would be too early for implantation bleeding from sex on the 7th. It could be due to uterine polyps, an ovarian cyst, etc..

See what happens when your next period is due and test if necessary. For now, be sure you are taking a prenatal vitamin or multivitamin in case you are, or do become, pregnant. This is important even before conception.
