What forms do I need to file to extend child support for my son who is 19 and disable
My son is 19 and will graduate this month. His father already filed to end the child support and it has now ended. I didn't know this until today, by calling his job and finding out. My son is disabled. Can I extend the child support order?

Your son is now an adult finished with high school, and if there were no provisions in a divorce decree, his father doesn't have to pay support. Your son can apply for Social Security Disability and Medicare through your local SS office. He doesn't have to be permanently disabled, but must be totally disabled and unable to work, although after he is approved he can work part time up to a certain amount and still keep all or part of his benefits. If he is physically disabled in a way that requires extra expense, he can get considerations for that too, and he can also apply for state supplemental benefit and Medicaid to cover medical expenses that Medicare doesn't. That will be a different state office.

Keep in mind that SS might not approve the claim. You didn't mention what the disability is.

It depends on the State and the extent of the disability. I've seen child support ordered for the life of the child when the disability was severe. Is the Court aware of the disability?

You can go back to Court and request that support be reinstated.

    What State?
