I have a 95 dodge dokota 3.9v6 at first it was overheating all the time I replaced the thermostat new hoses now it only overheats when I'm at a light but once it starts to get hot I can't get the temp back down without turnig off the motor I drove for 15 miles before that and the gauge was perfect I don't see how the water pump could be bad but I might be wrong please help

So now I put in a thermastat water pump fan clutch still over heating its better but not right I'm going to flush the radiator tomorrow there is no coolant in my oil and no smoke so I don't think that I have a blown head gasket 1 think that I noticed is I'm not getting any heat from my heater kind of making think there is a clog somewhere any ideas you been great so far

Buy a Prestone Flush Kit, where they give you a "T" to hook-up your garden hose and reverse flush the cooling system. Everything will come out the radiator cap. After you solve the problem, drain the system, including both plugs on the engine block, and refill with a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and distilled water. Ditto for reverse flushing the heater core.

If the problem persists, consider replacing the radiator. Phosphate scale my be blocking the radiator and heater core.

Thanks a lot man I flushed it was able to go on a long drive today stop and go traffic it got a little warm but not overheating I think there is a clog in the raditator I'm going to do it again then add antifreeze if this doesn't work guess I'm going to need a raditator
