How much is a rabie shot for a 10-year old dog
It varies. Some places have rabies clinics, where its maybe $20 for the shot.
If not done through a clinic, they are going to charge you an exam fee, which could range from 20-65 dollars. The vaccine itself can be anywhere between 10-20 dollars.
Depends on the vet. All vets have their own pricing.
I would suggest calling around to your local vets and asking them what they charge.
Agreed with above...
You can also order online the vaccine. It is a lot cheaper, however it isn't legal unless there is a vet signature on a certificate. But, if you live in the boondox, that may be something you want to look into. I know of many people who do their own rabies who live in county or in the sticks. If you live in a city, you cannot get this shot through the animal supply websites because you NEED a certificate signed by a licensed vet. The reason for this is because Rabies is a very deadly disease that has to be reported authorities during an outbreak.
In my area free rabies shots are given every June to anyone/everyone who shows up with a dog and can prove ownership. No charge for the brief physical and rabies shot.
Check with your County Health Department.
Altenweg finds this helpful : That would be great! I have three dogs. That would be a huge savings every year.
Hijacking for a moment - in my area participating Vets offer "free" rabies shots for pets of people who work in rescues. And the hook? The one closest to my house charges $60.00 for the physical prior to the rabies shot.
I fail to see the saving.
(I use my own Vet, always have. I'm sure this "free" shot brings in business but really... )
Chewy just got his shots yesterday. We have many vets in our Hamlet, but this is the only one that specializes in rabbits, so that's where we go for all the animals.
Chewy's shots, the exam, and some ear drops because he has an ear infection (droopy eared dogs are prone to them) cost $200. :(
Since I've been working for the horse vet, all my vet care has been free! Such a relief for me and my moms rescue.. two neuters at no cost.. one neuter with a cosmetic tail fix! There is a God!
I love the ear infection/droopy eared dog argument. My lab had to have surgery because he had frequent ear infections because he had "fold over ears." My GSD gets them because her ears stand up.
Apparently the solution is to breed a dog with no ears.
Ear infections are genetics IMO, same as plaque and tartar build up.
One of my poodles gets ear infections quite often and so did her mother.
My other poodle has never had an infection, no infections in his line.
My Crested has never even so much as needed his ears cleaned.
Vaccinations here in Aus vary. Obviously we do not do rabies vacc but it is around $10 each for all the others. I get a C3 done (parvo, distemper, hepatitis) plus consult fee of around $40.
No rabies vaccine? I assume that means that there is no rabies in Australia?
Nope, no rabies in Australia, that's why are quarantine laws are so strict.
Any animals arriving in Aus go through a 30-60 day quarantine.
I think Rabies is a North American problem.. England, Hawaii and Japan are the same way.. I'm sure other countries are as well which is why if you want to travel with your bet, you better start the process at least 12 months in advance
