    Retail Ceiling Receptacles
There are 15 receptacles on the ceiling of a retail space for plug-in fluorescent lighting. These receptacles are spread out over 5 circuits and there are no centralized locations for the switches.

    1. Is there any problem with supplying lighting with receptacles on a ceiling? The light fixtures will not be hardwired, they will simply plug into the receptacles.

    2. To avoid rewiring the ceiling, I would like to control the lights with 2 wireless switches. One switch will control the front half of the retail (7 receptacles) and the second switch will control the rear half of the retail (8 receptacles). Is a wireless switching system compliant with NEC 2005 in a retail space?

    3. Assuming a wireless switching system is an option, can you recommend a reasonably priced, reliable system?

Sure you can plug fixtures into ceiling lights, the cords cannot exceed six foot.

A wireless switching system is fine, just be sure the receiver relay can handle the load of the circuit.

What is popular is to use the circuit breakers as switches, if they are convenient to access, and are SWD rated. One circuit or a few lights or even one light can be left on as night lights.
