Care to take a moment to throw together a few more sentences describing not only what 'unit' you are talking about, but also more about it?

    A 1973 Payne furnace... not a boiler??
You still need to write coherent sentences. You say the 'original needs to be replaced' but you still haven't said WHAT, and then you say new coils, so which is it? New furnace? New boiler? Coils only? Thermostat where, which? How many BTUs?

My updating my outside air condition unit that's sets outside, with payne 3 ton unit with seer 13 ,he said that he needed to replace the{ a coils} in the furnace to match that unit he's pitting in. thermostat that controls both furnace and air condition. Don't no how many BTU it is, he told me that a new three ton unit outside would be plenty big enough to cool the a mount of sq footage that I got

Just so we are clear, you have a 1973 furnace and are replacing only the coil and compressor outside, right?

Who we bought the house from said the put a new furnace in didn't remember what year, the furnace that I have right now is amana { air comand 80 }.The compressor outside is the original to the house in 1973, yes he's going to replace the compressor outside with payne unit and the coils to match . Something about it being seer 13 rating cooloing efficiency.he's price for everything up and running is 2800.00, is this good or bad price

Price sounds about right for seer 13 but prices vary as well as labor from place to place. I never buy anything over $100 without comparing prices. In you case I'd get 3 hvac contractors to all bid on the same eqipment. Make sure they include pump down and removal of old freon and removal of all debris. They should also be licensed and bonded.

If you are saying that for $2800 you get a new outside unit and new inside coil (required for correct SEER) then it is a very good deal. Normally you figure a $1000 per ton, so it should cost $3500. You are saving $700. DrTom4444
