If you are looking to lighten your hair back to the way it was, the best thing you could do is to see your hair stylist. Trying to do it yourself and be bad and can cause damage...

What if I do my own hair? I don't have a stylist but I still need to get rid of the black so I can dye my hair the way I want it now. And I refuse to bleach it. Any suggestions?

    1. use a colour stripper on your hair like L'Oreal Color Zap. Use it like the directions tell you in the box BUT do not condition your hair afterwards.

    2. if this didn't get the colour light enough, buy a packet of bleach powder and 20 to 30 vol developer. Start with the powder in a bowl and add the developer slowly while stirring until you achieve a "whipped," puffy sort of texture. Brush it onto your hair and leave per the instructions on the packet or bottle. For best results, condition hair after rinsing and then dry hair.

    3. get a box of hair dye as close to your natural colour as possible. Voilą!

I have died my hair black more than 5 times. I am also having the same problem. I don't want to bleech my hair because I have bleeched it before and it dameged my hair and my hair fell out etc. I put a color stripper in and it no where near took the color out. I went to 2 different hair salons and both said it was going to take 6-8 hours and it would cost $800 at one place and $950 at the other and I don't have the money for it. So I thought I would try to die my hair a light color since my hair wasn't all black and it just changed my roots. Any other suggestions?

Go to a salon or even a cosmetology school ( same results just cheaper and done by students ) I'm a cosmotologist and I've seen the " i tried to do it at home to save money " more times than I can count. Its safer and better for your hair too have a professional . The hair closer to your scalp is warmer so will take color way better and quicker than the middle and roots.
