Is there a set screw on the motor pulley? Does the motor keep turning when you put tension on the belt? Watch the pulley and see if it stops. If so, tighten the set screw.

Thanks for the response, there is no set screw on the motor pulley that I can see and yes the motor keeps turning but the pulley stops, it is a cone shaped pulley and is supposed to be replaceable but I can't get it off.

BINGO, you found the problem! The pulley has to be locked on the shaft somehow. There should be either a keyway or set screw or maybe a small screw through the pulley. Hopefully you didn't strip the hex keyway or you will need a new motor. Brian

I agree with the answer and see no way to help you any more. There has to be a way to lock the pulley to the motor shaft. There should be an Allen set screw in the pulley. DrTom4444

I appreciate the help, the motor pulley threads onto the motor shaft and it was stripped which is why I couldn't get it off. I finally pulled the motor out and cut the pulley off, the motor shaft was also stripped so I went to o"reily auto borrowed a tap and dye set and rethreaded the motor shaft, put a new pulley on and it works. A lot of agravation but better than buying a new dryer. Thanks again for the help.
