As planning on getting married and things turn sour. The wedding is now called off. The woman returns the ring and few things of his. He bought the woman a car? Which the car is in her name only. Can he sue and get the car stating contemplation of marriage gift?

If it was a gift, it's a gift. If it's in her name, it's hers.

Unless you have proof that it was a gift contingent on marriage, you're out of luck. Even then you may be screwed.

Gifts are gifts. An engagement ring would need to be returned because that is a symbol of intent to marry. But a car? No.

Kiss the cash and the car goodbye.

Ring yes, but anything else, I seriously doubt any judge would take the car from her.

Anything that's a gift does not need to be returned. Any items of his do. Any trip the two of them took only needs to be repaid if that's what they agreed on when they went. If he agreed to pay for the trip as a gift and didn't expect the girl to pay for her own expenses, it's too late now.

This is why big purchases should never be made for a boyfriend or girlfriend, even if they're engaged. Until you're married, a gift is a gift, and that's it. Once you're married it's community property, then he may have had a chance to get the car back.

Why he put it in the girls name only I don't know. Big mistake. Sounds like she definitely got the better end of the deal. If she had any morals she'd return the car because he paid for it, but legally she doesn't have to. Sadly the law and morals usually don't have anything to do with each other.

A gift is a gift under the eye of the law, you could with an awesome lawyer, but that would probably not be worth what the car costs, unless it is worth A LOT. Plus, it would be a big hassle, maybe talking to her about it would get more things done? If that was already done, then that car is lost in most situations.
