Tough for me because if he says no I am afraid he won't hang out with me anymore. Some people think he likes me but I'm the kind of person that likes to play it safe.

Well, in life you are going to be put in positions in which you will be required to step out of your comfort zone to either face acceptance or rejection. Go for it, if he says yes, then you will get to do something you really want to do, if he says no, then you are right back where you are now... Also, if he stops hanging out with you or talking to you because of this, then he wasn't a good friend to begin with, or he is really immature. I am sure nothing will happen, so go for it!

Adding on to a previous question. I have decided to ask my best guy friend to semi formals but I don't know when I should. It is about a month away and I'm wondering if I should ask now or wait and see if he asks me.

Ask now. A month seems like a far ways off, but for a semi formal he will need time to get the right clothes, so will you.

No harm in asking him. It's the 21 century, females even propose marriage nowadays. :)
