Okay so I am natrually ginger/red hair. I hated it. So I dyed it "mediam ash brown" from herbashine by garnier. I'm pretty sure it's a semi-permanent dye. So anyway I left it on too long and now its black. I really don't like it. And I can't dye it back red because it will just turn out blood red and my natural hair was red with some brown undertones. Is there any way to fade the color faster? I don't want to bleach it or anything like that. I'm only 13 so I am just wondering if you know anything like baking soda or any specific shampoos I can use to make it go away. And will it ever go back to my natural color or will it always be slightly darker? Thanks I'm desperate I miss being a ginger!:( any tips will be appreciated!!

First, I'd like to say (as a hairstylist) that until you know the fundamentals of hair color, you should probably have a professional color your hair (or fix mishaps). With that said, my suggestion to help this dark color fade faster is this: Dish soap. Use a hand dish soap such as Palmolive as a shampoo for a week or so. Shampoo no more than twice a day with it, though, or your hair will be stripped of too many natural oils it needs to stay healthy. After a few days to a week, you will want to give it a deep conditioning. If you don't have the opportunity to go to a professional hairstylist for the conditioning, you can use a regular moisturizing conditioner. Put on your dry or damp hair generously and cover with plastic shower cap and wrap with a hot, damp towel for 20 minutes and then rinse. Or you can use an at-home recipe of 1 cup mayo (room temperature), 1/2 cup olive oil, and 3 egg yolks. Follow with plastic cap and towel and sit 20 minutes before rinsing. As for the color, there is a chance it may not fade completely because it did go so dark. Consider saving some money to have a professional tone it to a shade that best suits your natural color. Or you can find a salon that sells L'Oreal Colorist (formerly called ARTec) color-depositing shampoo and conditioner. It's not cheap, though. Probably $30ish per bottle. There is one called "ginger root" that is a ginger/brown shade that might be what you are looking for. Definitely talk to the sales person or stylist selling the product to get their professional opinion. The rest may just have to grow out unless you can pay to have it fixed. Do NOT try to continue to color it to fix it. The rule of thumb is that "color on top of color will always go darker".

Hey I resently posted the same question, no one really answers them, but I did the same thing as you, but I got it to a mahogany colour by putting blonde dye on top called Revlon ash blonde. This is what I did as well, it really works here's a video.
