    Oil based varnish
I have been using varathane oil based 900 gloss varnish on log furniture which I have built. Apparently this is now no longer being made due to environmental concerns. Does anyone know of a good substitute that I could use?

There are a lot of other manufacturers that make oil based polyurethane. HD, Lowe's and Ace have some lines.

Oil Based varathane is being discontinued and will be illegal to get in Canada due to environmental concerns.

You didn't tell us you were in Canada! Tung Oil is a decent substitute but doesn't hold up as well. Sikkens makes log home stains and sealers-Cetol. I suggest a trip to the USA and get some prior to the ban, if they will let you bring it back. I live in Georgia, USA and we can get gallons of it here. Water based works well but I like the color of the oil based Poly's. I typically use Minwax products although I do have some Varathane-I think Lowe's carries it in the lower 48. The greenies win again!
