Refusal of renewing the lease on apartment
What steps need to be taken when the landlord refuse to renew lease based on hear say and made up infractions that are not in writing. This is also HUD housings how does this work, do I go to regular court or not?

    Hello l:

A landlord is NOT obligated to renew a lease - even in HUD housing. His reasoning doesn't matter.

Please provide your location. In NJ a landlord is required to renew a lease unless the situation falls in one of 16 specific categories.

    California is a southern state?

Well, in a manner of speaking, I guess.

But seriously, thus far we only have LisaB4657's word that New Jersey has a befuddled law on the subject. When OP reports his/her location, we can seriously address what the law has to say about it. I hope it's NJ, so that we can learn something.
