My rider was running fine,then the stater burnt.I replased the stater,but when I turn the key I got nothing.so I jumped it from the bat. To the starter then it turned over but I got no fier so I removed the grond wier for the coil and I got fier but it dident start.starter fluied will start it but it will die.I would please help,

Hi,
Sounds like you have no power to the anti-backfire solenoid on the bottom of the carb. This will prevent fuel flow into the jets and therefore the engine.
My guess is that you also have a bad key switch or solenoid or both. This solenoid I speak of now is the one in the starter circuit. I is relatively easy to check by taking a wire from the side attached to the battery and jumping it to the smaller trigger post (usually a red wire) If nothing happens or it clicks but the starter does nothing, the solenoid is bad. There are ways to look up the switch, but you would need to reveal the brand and model.

Clark, Thank you for the reply. OK.The rider I'm working on is a mod.#917.270711 sears briggs.it all started when I changed out the engine.Both engines where operating fine( electrically) but when I went to start the replasement engine, problems strated.First the carb started to flood filling the crankcase,then the alternater burnt OK,I cleened the carb,replaced the alternater,charged the bat,I'm ready to start this baby,but I turn the key & nothing!like I said,both mowers where working fine elecrically before.so the best I know to do is jump the bat.@ the solenoid to the starter it turns but no fier.I pulled just about the entier harness out and found no bad wiers,I put my meter on the S wier of the solenoid and got no reading,disconected all 3 safety switches and no reading either.if my problem was a bad safety switch I should have gotten a reading , right?I did replace the key switch and the solenoid with used ones that I know work.and I have burnt 2 fuses. well.I hope my explanation here can be understood,its my first time here and I do think this is a very good page,I spent a lot of hrs reading the threds and have gotten lots of good use out of it,so thanks to all who contribute here! slyme65.

OK clark,thanks for the reply. I have put a used key switch,and solenoid that I know work,and still nothing.should I have a reading on the S switch if I disconecked all safety switches? I will recheck the solenoid and key switch would a bad eather one of these couse my carb solenoid not to work. The electrical aspect of this rider is really hard for me,I don't understand what's going on or what is what.im dealling whit a sears mo#917.270711

Thank you for your reply clark.ok,my rider is a sears mo#917.270711.my problems started when I chaged out engiens on this unit.Both engiens where running fine but the 27o711 was burning oil so that's the reason for the swop.Hover,once I got it all swoped out I got no responds when I turned the key.I jumped it form the bat.post of the solenoid to the starter and the engine turns,but the carb would flood and fill the crank case,I then pull the spark plug,rejup it to git the gas out the crank case,and the stater started smoking,took it off to find it burnt,replased it.again,will only turn by jumping.but no fier,removed grond from coill and got fier,but did not start with out starter fluid.thought it might be the safety switches so I disconected all 3 put my 12volt tester lead on the white S wier of the solenoid turned the key and still no fier,it is burnig fuses somewhere down the line,I've burnt 2 so far.I can't make heads or tails of the eletrical part of the mower,I do OK with the rest but I now trying to learn the elctrical so any help would be great. t/y
