I am currently on the winter heating setting. Can I just put the switch on to Cool for the air conditioner. Is there anything else I need to do. Can I keep the pilot light on?

Yes, just switch to cool, fan on auto. Are you sure it has a standing pilot? You can turn off the pilot and save gas but then you will need to know how to relight in the winter. PS. Change the filter too!

Thank you so much for the answer. My husband used to light pilot and such; but he had a stroke in Sept. that left his right arm fairly useless. I know that one winter he left the pilot on; since it's so hard to light in the fall. I wonder how much gas it uses. On a different note: Your ma0641 is interesting - I was born in Mass. And the day and date were 0641. Thanks again for info.
