Replaced crankshaft position sensor, cranks OK cold start but afterword very hard to start. Often will start up in limp home (3rd gear) mode. Have 2 codes P0601 (Control Module Read Only Memory - ROM) and P0650 (Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Control Circuit. Check engine light does not work all fuses check out OK. Help please.

With a P0601 you will likely need to replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) but that will need hands-on diagnosis by a qualified tech.
Any time the Check Engine Light doesn't work, you're probably going to need the PCM replaced and programmed to your vehicle.
