Do you think this person is guilty of ethics, hippa violation?
If you provide your boss with information as to when someone got done at a clinic via an rx profile, with the time they rec'd an rx from the clinic, do you think this is a hippa violation and terms for firing? This employee has never had any write ups and has been working at this employer 16+years.

First HIPAA is not criminal law.

Second, how did this person obtain the info and why would they be telling the employer?

HIPAA provides rules about a medical service provider revealing info about someone they provide service to without approval. If you are not a service provider and did not obtain the info illegally, then there is no HIPAA issue.

There may be an ethics issue depending on how the info was obtain and why it was reported.
