    Theft - 5000$ didn't commit crime though
My friend and I were at the wrong place in the time. We walked on the parking lot we found a purse and a gps I picked the gps it looked new and pricey. We walked on the street later and realized out of the ordinary, I shattered window car with the interior lights on, I stook my hand to turn off the light and walked down a bit and right after cops came arrested us saying they had a call describing two guys carjacking, but it wasn't me and my friend. I explained my side of the story, they separated us, we both said the same thing. Finally, they let us go with a sheet saying I have to go do my fingerprints and be present to court. I'm 21, no criminal record, I want to keep that way, I work and I've applied to go to university next fall. I live in montreal, quebec. I am going to speak to a lawyer, what can happen and what should I do?

Let me guess: English is not your mother tongue and you don't quite get it sometimes?

Or maybe it's a slight case of "hair of the dog"?

Are you saying you found a purse and GPS and then you found a car with its lights on and the window broken so you reached in (as a responsible citizen) to turn the lights off and the Police grabbed you and accused you of breaking in the car?

Hard to believe the Police don't believe this story.

    Get a very good Attorney.

I was drunk that night, I was only being a responsible citizen turning off the lights so the car battery doesn't run out. The police did not see me do it, they only have a description of the thieves. The purse and gps(in a parking lot) was 15 yards away from the car. Busy street in downtownm I have 3 lawyers who want represent me, though I don't have a lot of money...

They WANT to represent you or they are WILLING to represent you for money?

I didn't realize that breaking a car window would cause the car's interior lights to go on. Most thieves actually prefer that the interior lights not go on - or so I would think.

Sometimes it doesn't pay to be a good citizen. The Police didn't see you "do it." What is "it"?

They didn't see us do it, they assume it was us

You are not going to do very well in Court. They didn't see you do "it." What is "it"?

Reach into the car, steal the purse?

What didn't they see you do?

I notice you don't say you didn't do it; you say they didn't see you do it.

Again - get a very good Attorney.

They came after, I didn't break in to someone's property, the purse and the gps were 15 yards away from the broken car, we found in scarce on the floor, we picked up the gps that's all, I told them we saw a broken window of a car and the light was on, the only thing is the gps. So again, they didn't see us reach anything, we were walking down and then right after they came at us. I have a meeting with my lawyer on Wednesday.
