Is there any thing wrong with wiring the ceiling fan to the outlet box. The power source goes to the switch first. The outlet is not switched and the fan will have no light on it.
Thanks so much

I don't see any problem.
Because of the weight of the fan, you may have to change the bracket and box to one that is listed for fan use.
This should be fine just double check you are using a reinforced box for your fan.
I think TK and I are reading this different than Don and Kyle. They feel you are hanging your fan from an outlet and if that is the case their concern is well founded. TK and I think you are pulling your power from and outlet and we'd OK that. You need to help us sort this out as to which scenarion fits your need.
Bob,
My thought, was that he was taking power from the receptacle and feeding a wall switch which in turn fed a ceiling mounted fan.
In which case he would have to make sure that the outlet box he was using is listed for the weight of the fan.
I thought he was running wire from a receptacle to the ceiling fan with no switch in between, which will require a reinforced ceiling box
