    Paternity test?
I have a 7 year old daughter. Recently an old friend came into my life saying he thinks he could be her father.. I was married at the time of her conception and birth. My then husband signed the birth certificate. He is the only father she knows. However, I did have one night with this guy during our separation a month or so prior to conception. Do I have to cooperate with a paternity test? I don't want to have to explain something like that to my daughter.

You would have to comply only if there were a court order requiring you to do so.

What state is this in? States have different laws to deal with this issue. In many there is a time limit for challenge and in others it can be challenged at any time.

ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area.

In most areas, your husband is presumed the father. However, most areas have a time limit during which a challenge needs to be mounted.

So you may nor may not be forced to comply.

If he takes you to court and get a court order ( it will depend on state laws as if he can) but then you don't want the child to know ? What do you say 20 years from now when she finds out he really was and you did not allow her a chance to know ?

And while not binding in court, even home tests may give you some idea.
