Have problem getting tractor running. Put new coil on and started once, then no spark.
Tried new coil and it started twice... then once again no spark. Don't really want to try another one and have it start 3 times... LOL
Am I missing something here? Is it possible 12 volts is getting to ground wire and frying coil or am way off base?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is a 917.273635-----model 31p777----type 0348-e1.
If this any help!

Check the wire going to the coil and see if there's a diode .
Check the wire and see if it has voltage.

I have the same issues with my Craftsman 917.2736401 that has the same engine. Did you ever find out what is causing the armature magneto to fail?
I am on my third magneto and have checked everything and there are no shorts or frayed wires.
