My supervisor sent my sister information about my depression, HIPAA violation?
My supervisor sent my family member information about my depression and posted on my absences on my Facebook wall. I had to provide them with my mental illness information and had to sign a Hippa form for them. Do you think I have a case as this has caused my anxiety to go out of control and unable to work. Thank you for any help with this.

A HIPAA violation (not HIPPA) results in a warning to the facility that released the info. It is nothing that an individual can sue over.

BUT if the Supervisor's conduct has caused you financial harm and you can document it with medical reports, yes, you have a lawsuit. It just doesn't involve HIPAA.

Why did your Supervisor do something like this?

    Consult with an Attorney.

HIPAA becomes involved when a medical practitioner reveals info about a patient without permission.

What did the HIPAA form you signed say?
