    Song to a movie - Caravans
    I saw a movie many years ago called "Caravans" with Anthony Quinn and Jennifer O'Neill.

    I recall that there was a song called "Caravans" that played at the end of the movie - quite a haunting song - very beautiful. I have looked in the imdb and can't find who sang the song - anyone know who sang it?

    Song to a movie - Caravans
    Hi Ennoh. The song is called, aptly enough, "Caravan Song", and it was composed, arranged and conducted by Mike Batt. In the film, the song was sung by Barbara Dickson.

    Here are the lyrics:

    The early light is breaking,
    The morning sun is waiting in the sky.
    And I think I'm going to break away,
    And follow where the birds of freedom fly.
    I need to give,
    I need to live;
    For the world is slowly turning,
    And the lights of love are burning in my eyes.

    Caravans,
    Oh, my soul is on the run,
    Overland, I am flying;
    Caravans,
    Moving out into the sun,
    Oh, I don't know where I'm going, but I'm going

    I wish I had the wisdom
    To find some simple words to make you see,
    That the things that mean a lot to you
    Don't always seem to mean a lot to me
    I need to breathe,
    I need to leave;
    When the sands of time go drifting by
    I may be on my own, but I'll feel free

    Caravans,
    Oh, my soul is on the run,
    Overland, I am flying;
    Caravans,
    Moving out into the sun,
    Oh, I don't know where I'm going, but I'm going

    Caravans,
    Oh, my soul is on the run,
    Overland, I am flying;
    Caravans,
    Moving out into the sun,
    Oh, I don't know where I'm going, but I'm going

    If you're interested in buying a copy of the song, it's available on Mike Batt's album "Mike Batt with the London Philharmonic Orchestra: Caravans Original Motion Picture Score", which was released in 1979. It's also available on the "Very Best Of Mike Batt". Amazon.com lists the CD for $15.99. Here is the direct link for the CD:

    Sorry, there's a typo in my reply... The singer's name is Barbara Dickson, NOT Barbara thingyson. I haven't got a CLUE how THAT happened...

    OK, I get it... this site must have some anti-cuss software built in. There are certain words that automatically change to "thingy". Well, that's a bit of a pain in the neck, isn't it? Especially when the changeover doesn't show up in the "Preview" box.

    Well, since I can't spell the lady's name the way it's supposed to be spelled, I'll have to turn it into a puzzle... again, what a pain!

    The lady's name is Barbara Dixon, but, for the correct spelling, replace the "Dix" with the nickname for "Richard". Geez, I hope you can figure this out!

    I will be complaining to the helpdesk about this!

    The singer is Barbara Dixon, I have it on her album and it's written by the great Mike Batt (used to sing in the Wombles lol). :-)

    The woman who sang the song was Barbara son. Don't know anything more about her. It was, indeed, a very haunting song, as was the movie theme. Hope this helps.

    I really wish this movie would be rereleased! It is such a beautiful epic, it really is a classic; the score by Mike Batt is superlative!
