Hi Ok I need some help determining my date of conception so I know my proper due date. I had sex 2 weeks before my period (during my ovulation) and the condom got stuck inside of me and I had to go to the ER to get it removed. I was scared I was pregnant but I started my period but it was light and only lasted 3 days. I had unprotected sex the day I got off my period but the guy didn't finish cause it hurt ( sorry tmi) Next month I tested a few days before my period was due and I was pregnant. I went to my dr and he said to be safe we will just go off the time I had sex after my period. I had my ultra sound my 1st ultrasound/heart beat a month after I found out (so 6 weeks it should have been) and it seemed like the 2nd time was right for the size of the baby. I went for my 16 week ultrasound and he was already 1lb! So I'm wondering if I really got pregnant when the condom was stuck... anyone have any advice! Id really like to know if shell be coming sooner ( my baby is a girl:) ) Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

If they felt baby was about 1 pound, you are further along than 16 weeks. When you had the first scan done, believing you were about 6 weeks, was it a vaginal ultrasound? Was baby's heartbeat seen and/or heard at that time? Is this your first baby? Have you felt any movement? If so, for how long and what sort... occasional fluttering or more pronounced? What has your doctor said about the baby's measurements? This would give them a fairly good idea of just how far along you are at this stage of the pregnancy.

At 6 weeks it was a vaginal ultrasound. Yes we heard and seen her heartbeak. At 16 weeks I did a regular ultrasound to check the sex of my baby and they said she was 1lb. Yes this is my first baby. I started to feel her really kick me at 20 weeks. He says she's going to be a big baby. Im currently 31 weeks now and I have braxton hicks all the time and I'm extremely uncomfortable. My dr just brushes it off saying my due date is still the same. But I haven't had another one done since my 16 ultra sound (due to lack of money)

What did they say about baby's measurements at 16 weeks? That will give them a better idea then trying to determine a weight. Weights can be off, but a pound at 16 weeks is off quite a bit. I am surprised they didn't want to do any further checking.

He said that the baby is 24 cm and weighs 1lb

Would it help to show you the ultrasound picture?

Has your doctor given you an estimate of baby's size since the last ultrasound? Does your doctor do fundal height measurements, and if so, have they been close to the number of weeks you are?

Last week at my week 30 app he said I was measuring 33 weeks

That's perfectly fine. Of course, fundal height measurement only gives a rough idea, but if baby were unusually large, you would expect to be measuring much further ahead in most cases.

It is possible the previous ultrasound was incorrectly read. It is possible baby measured ahead at the time, but things have evened out, so to speak. It is possible your dates are off a bit.

Obviously time will tell when you go into labor and baby is born. They will be able to determine whether baby is actually full term if born well before the expected due date.

Well shortly after this post I went into preterm labor. The dr checked me I was dilated and my cervix was still hard so he gave me a shot and sent me on my way... is that what usually happens?

Last night I went into preterm labor at 31 weeks. I felt cramping and it started to come in timed intervals. I called my dr and he said go straight down to the hospital. When I got there I was told I have a UTI and that I was having contractions. I wasn't dilated and my cervix was still hard so they gave me a shot didn't work gave me a 2nd one and it stopped. Then they sent me on my way. I think I'm further along than they are saying but what happens now. Will the baby come early or will the medicine work till I'm full term ?

There is no way to know. What did the Doctor say?

In what way are you not receiving help? I may be incorrect, by I believe JudyKayTee was referring to the suggestion that you are further along than the doctor thinks. You are wondering if the baby will come early and/or if the shot you received will prevent that from happening. All of your posts have been in regard to wondering whether you will have baby earlier than the doctor thinks.

As was said, there is no way to know. It can be quite individual as to how someone responds to the medication. What was it that they gave you?

How regular were the contractions you were experiencing and for how long were you having them? Your doctor was apparently not overly concerned or they would have kept you in hospital for observation at least. What was done for the UTI? It is not uncommon for women to have some contractions associated with a UTI, thus that should be treated to help prevent preterm labour.

All you can do now is wait and see what happens. If you were to start having regular contractions again, contact your doctor again and go back in. They should do an ultrasound to get a rough idea of how far along you are. At that point they may or may not determine that you are further along than they suspected. This would be necessary to determine what sort of intervention may be in your best interest. They may try to stop labour, they will likely check for lung maturation of baby, they may want to use medication to speed up that process if deemed necessary, or they may let you continue with labour if it is found that you are much further along.

With babies and due dates, they are guesses, there is no exact science, the doctor guesses from what you said, and he does a professional guess from ultra sound.

There is no way to know for sure which date it is, it could be both, from your info, my guess would be the first. And of course even with the first, the baby could be "late" and make it appear the second date is right.

So you have the baby early, or late or on time, and no one will know for sure ever which time it was exactly.

The only reason it would even matter is if they were two different men, in which case, you will just have to get a DNA test when child is born to be sure

What exactly is your due date, if I may ask?

UTI's are a common cause of preterm labor. I see it all the time.

The shot they gave you is a medication called a tocolytic. It's name is Terbutaline. It stops contractions. I bet it made your heart beat pretty fast too, didn't it?

Will it work until you are full term? Hopefully, but that's really anyone's guess. It's never a guarantee.
